What are some common dress alterations?

The most common dress alteration is hemming, take in the bust or waist and shorten shoulder straps.

    • Hemming the Skirt. We provide this service to almost every customer that comes to visit us. Dresses come in different lengths and styles, so we need to hem them to achieve an ideal length. Especially the bridal gown hem is usually extra-long so it will also fit the taller customers.
    • Taking in/out on the hips and waist. Sides are taken in when the gown needs to be adjusted to fit your body shape. In this case, we suggest you pick a dress that is a little bit bigger, as it is much easier and less expensive to take it in, rather than let it out. As everybody is unique so it is almost impossible to find a gown that would fit everyone. Take the gown in or out on the side seams is another common bridal alteration in order to achieve the perfect silhouette.
    • Shortening the Straps. Usually, the straps are slightly longer, so they can fit more figures. In order to make it comfortable, we recommend adjusting the straps to ensure a perfect fit.

Other Gown Alterations we can provide

    • Taking in around the chest, so that the neckline won’t make a gutter when you look down.
    • Adding a waist to stay inside your gown and fits snug on your waist.
    • Altering the neckline is a common dress alteration that can make a big impact, as you can request to have your neckline opened or closed.
    • Altering the back is the dress alteration that our Tailor can make the difference. It requires a fashion designing experience and eye to make a remodel the back. This is a bit more expensive service.
    • Altering the closure is another alteration service that we can provide you. Just ask our Tailor what is possible!
    • Adding sleeves or doing other special dress alterations. Our gown alteration specialist will transform your gown to achieve the perfect fit and suit your individual preferences!

When should you have your first fitting?

When it comes to a wedding or bridesmaid dress alterations, a lot will depend on the time of year. During the Wedding Season (May-August) it may take 3-6 weeks. On the other hand, during fall or winter, it can take anywhere from 3-5 days to a week.

For prom dress alterations, during the prom Season (May-June) it may take 1-3 weeks. If you start earlier, it will take anywhere from 2 to 7 days.

It is always good to have some extra time, so we can have a least 1 fitting in case something needs to be fixed.

Wedding, Prom & Evening dress alterations cost

Our Tailor will help you decide which alterations will work best without compromising the style of your dress.

Pricing varies based on how much work needs to be done and the complexity of the Prom, Evening, Formal or Wedding dress alterations.

All the Gowns are constructed differently, and some styles and materials are just naturally easier to alter than others.

In general, a bridesmaid dress alterations cost depends on the amount of work, the design and the fabric.

A gown with many layers or made of silk may also be more difficult for the Tailor to alter. Some fabrics are harder to work with and the dress alteration may cost you more.

Dress Alterations prices can vary, but generally, it will cost around $70-200. The price to take side won’t change whether we take 1 or 4 inches, so taking in a little or a lot will usually cost the same.

For gowns, such as wedding dresses, that have special fabrics or adornments such as beads, lace, tulle or crystals there may be an additional charge as the gown may require more extensive tailoring and it will cost around $400-700.
